Position Overview
Edgecombe County EMS is seeking a motivated and field-driven paramedic leader to serve as a Lieutenant (Assistant Shift Supervisor). This is a front-line leadership position responsible for supervising daily EMS operations, managing emergency incidents, and supporting the development and performance of field personnel. Lieutenants play a critical role in shaping shift culture, ensuring operational readiness, and delivering high-quality patient care across the system. This position is field based, operating out of a Quick Response Vehicle, and is not an administrative office role. Lieutenants report directly to the EMS Shift Supervisor (Captain).
•911 Division Schedule: 24/72 Shift Schedule. 24-hour shift followed by 72 hours off duty. Shift time: 6:00am – 6:15am
Core Responsibilities
•Respond to and manage emergency and non-emergency incidents, including high-acuity and large-scale events
•Provide real-time supervision, leadership, and support to EMS crews in the field
•Promote accountability, professionalism, and strong clinical performance across assigned personnel
•Oversee and support the Field Training and Evaluation Process (FTEP) for new employees
•Ensure operational readiness by identifying and reporting fleet, equipment, and facility issues
•Participate in quality management (QA/QI) and performance improvement processes
•Complete incident documentation, reports, and disciplinary actions when necessary
•Serve in the Captain role when assigned

Education and Experience
•High school diploma or GED
•North Carolina Paramedic state certification
•North Carolina Driver’s License and acceptable driving record
•ACLS, PALS, BLS, and ITLS or equivalent is preferred
•NC EMS Officer I
•Experience as an FTO or EMS Officer for a minimum of 1 year preferred
Salary
The salary range total is not including regularly scheduled overtime. Overtime hours are paid at true time and a half. On top of the starting salary, Edgecombe County offers excellent benefits that total over $12,000 annually in addition to 2% contribution to the 401k. Range is based upon years of experience.
•Lieutenant Hourly Pay Range: $24.70-37.05/hr. Annual Expected Salary Range ($59,082-88,824)
