EMS Advanced EMT

Person County Government is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Advanced EMT to join our Emergency Services team. This critical role provides advanced pre-hospital life support care, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients in emergency situations.

The Advanced EMT is responsible for operating ambulances in compliance with all local and State regulations, responding promptly to emergency calls, and delivering high-quality patient care. Duties include assessing patient conditions, performing life-saving interventions, administering appropriate treatments, and safely transporting patients to area medical facilities. The role also involves rescue operations and delivering both basic and advanced emergency medical care in high-pressure environments.

This position operates under general supervision but requires a high degree of independent judgment. The successful candidate will be expected to develop effective work methods, prioritize rapidly changing situations, and make sound clinical decisions in the field.

The starting salary will be determined with consideration given to both the candidate’s educational background and relevant work experience.

Must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record per County policy.

This position will have built-in overtime. The shift cycle is 24 hours on and 72 hours off.
Essential Functions
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

Serves as an operator of emergency medical unit responding to calls for assistance and during transport to area hospitals either emergently or non-emergently.
Administers advanced level of life support techniques and procedures based on patient assessment, including all skills at the EMT level as well as drawing blood, administering approved medications, initiating intravenous fluids, airway management, and performing pulmonary ventilation.
Transports patients to local and regional medical facilities, maintaining contact with medical staff while in transport and assuring care of patient.
Completes patient care documentation through various paper and electronic based formats during and after calls for service including information for billing documentation, and legal accountability.
Participates in a continuous training program to maintain certification and improve competence in medical technical work and operation; studies street and road patterns and networks of the County in order that future runs may be made with minimum difficulty and delay.
Inspects and tests response vehicles and their emergency equipment, maintaining proper inventory of equipment and supplies; cleans and sanitizes equipment daily; ensures that they are in proper and good working order; makes routine adjustments, but reports other than minor defects for specialized attention.
Maintains cleanliness and performs minor maintenance of Emergency Medical Service facilities; to include, but not limited to; sweeping, mopping, cleaning dishes, cleaning and sanitizing living spaces, and cleaning up around the outside of the facility.
Participates in community outreach programs to promote safety and prevention awareness and to provide information on EMS services.
Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High School Graduation or GED equivalent and complete EMT course and state exam.
Special Certifications and Licenses
Certification by the State of North Carolina as an AEMT or be eligible for state reciprocity/legal recognition by the State of North Carolina.
CPR Certification.
NIMS ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 within 90 days of hire date.
EVD or EVOC within one year
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
Person County conducts pre-employment screening on candidates. Job offers are conditional pending the following:
