EMT Instructor – Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools

TITLE: CTE Teacher-Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) 2025-26 School Year

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Must be actively credentialed by the NC Office of EMS at the EMT level or higher; and,
possess a Level I or Level II EMS Instructor credential at the EMT level or higher from the NC Office of EMS.

Required: High School Diploma/GED, Associate’s, or Bachelor’s degree
Preferred: NC Professional Educator’s License in the area of Trade and Industrial Education – Public Safety

SALARY: If Certified: NC Teacher Salary + local supplement
If Classified: Based on verified experience

SUPERVISES: May coordinate and direct activities of paraprofessionals, volunteers and/or clerical assistants.

REPORTS TO: The school principal or his/her designee

JOB GOAL: To teach EMT I and II while preparing students to meet the NC OEMS requirement for eligibility to take the state EMT Basic certification exam.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops lesson plans and instructional materials. Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals. Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicates these objectives to the students.
Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media.
Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student’s progress and interprets the school program.
Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and through self-selected professional growth activities.
Participates in curriculum development programs as required. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Instructs pupils in a classroom, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities.

Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.

Evaluates pupil performance and growth using a variety of formative and summative evaluation tools
Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student’s progress and interprets the school program.
Collaborates with colleagues to promote an optimal learning environment for pupils.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary in accordance with certification and placement on the adopted schedule.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Board of Education policy on the evaluation of teachers.
