Description: This is an academy style accelerated full time paramedic program. This program is designed for agencies to hire EMT providers sending them to school full time for paramedic education and credentialing. This alternative delivery model is in response to local and regional need regarding Paramedic shortages in North Carolina. This program provides delivery of paramedic education in a similar fashion as a fire department rookie school and basic law enforcement training. This program is combination academy style delivery through an apprentice relationship with local EMS agencies. Students should be currently employed with an agency or have the availability for full time education. Field clinical experiences will be attained at their respective agencies and clinical experiences will be attained at facilities in their service area. The students will attend class/lab/clinical for a total of 32 hours weekly. The agencies will then have the student/employee 8 hours weekly. The program will be held Monday through Thursday 0800-1700 with variations noted for clinical scheduling. Students may complete the program in 26.25 weeks to 32 weeks depending on clinical/field proficiencies and achievement of terminal competencies. In addition to our full-time faculty, dedicated EMS training rooms, high fidelity simulation manikins, and ambulance, our program has an immersive technology room on our north campus (Echo healthcare) and Virtual Reality capability for training.
