Course Description
The Forsyth Tech EMS Programs Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians (AEMTs) to Paramedic bridging course
is designed to bridge currently credentialed Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians (AEMTs) to the Paramedic
level. This bridging course is held in 2 parts and spans over 40 weeks and will encompass online interactive
lectures, classroom-focused lectures, individual skill labs, clinical, field and capstone internships. Upon completion
of both parts, students should be able to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and affective behavior of a competent
entry-level Paramedic. Students will then be eligible to test for North Carolina Paramedic certification and National
Registry Paramedic.
Program Goal
The goal of Forsyth Tech Community College EMS Paramedic programs is to prepare Paramedics who are
competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter
the profession.
Course Modality, Meeting Times, and Location
• Course Modality: This course is offered in a “flip-flop” format, allowing students to choose to attend inperson classes on either Tuesday or Thursday. In addition to in-person sessions, students are required to
complete online assignments and lectures. Successful completion of both in-person and online
components is necessary to graduate from the course. (There are two specific dates listed on the schedule
where students will need to attend class on an alternate day due to the college being closed for holidays.
Be sure to review the schedule carefully for these adjustments).
• Meeting Times: Class will run from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with a 1-hour lunch break from 12:00 PM to 1:00
PM.
• Course Location: Forsyth Tech Northwest Forsyth Center located at:
3111 Big Oaks Dr, King, NC 27021.
Prerequisites
To be eligible for the course students must complete the following prerequisites before the start of the course
• Must be 18 years of age at the start of the course to enroll.
• High school diploma or high school equivalency.
• Possession of a valid form of ID.
• Possession of a valid and active North Carolina AEMT Credential
• Completion of one of the Anatomy and Physiology courses below prior to the first day of class.
o Option 1: EMS- 3163 Basic Anatomy and Physiology
o Option 2: BIO- 163: Basic Anatomy and Physiology
o Option 3: BIO- 165 & 166: Anatomy and Physiology I & II (Must complete both sections)
o Option 4: BIO- 168 & 169: Anatomy and Physiology I & II (Must complete both sections)
• Complete college-level English or pass a written assessment within the past 12 months placing them in
college-level English.
• Complete college-level Math or pass a written assessment within the past 12 months placing them in
college-level Math.
• Attend and complete a mandatory information session and the required entry exam.
