This course is designed for all 1st responders (fire, EMS & law enforcement). Through a mixture of lecture, case study and role-play the instructor will delve into a deep understanding of what Autism Spectrum Disorder is followed by a deep dive into sensory issues, speaking vs non-speaking, stimming, elopement, meltdowns, and crisis intervention skills. This class is designed to redirect the student’s thoughts from passively acquired assumptions to evidence-based knowledge to fuel effective assessment techniques and decision-making.
