The American Burn Association (ABA) has established consultation & referral criteria for burn injuries that would benefit from specialized definitive care at an ABA-verified burn center. However, local healthcare professionals generally treat burn injuries requiring medical attention (Primary Care, Urgent Care, EMS, ED). Appropriate initial care outside burn centers and referral to ABA-verified burn centers can improve short-term and long-term outcomes. This program is intended to provide all healthcare professionals with the essential skills of initial burn care and the knowledge of burn center resources for emergency care, definitive care, and long-term rehabilitative care.
