Gaston College’s Curriculum Emergency Medical Technician (EMS-110) meets face to face at the Dallas Campus in the Pearson Life Skills Building on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 0830am-1230pm for a 16-week semester. There are no Saturdays, however; there are two extended days for an ambulance operations class that conclude at 5:30 pm. This class awards both the chance to sit for the NC Office of EMS EMT exam and 9 credit hours toward the Associates Degree of Emergency Medical Science. Gaston College awards an Associate’s Degree of Emergency Medical Science after the successful student completes the 70-hour degree requirement, including paramedic core education classes and several hundred hours of field/hospital clinicals.
This course includes all skills and course information necessary to provide emergency care of sick or injured patients at the basic care level. EMTs work for a Basic Life Support ambulance service, fire service, or other specialized rescue agency. Upon successful completion of the EMT course including classroom instruction, psychomotor skills competency, driver training and affective behavior training, the student will be eligible to sit for state and national written examinations.
