About the Position
Performs intermediate technical work providing emergency response and prehospital care to County citizens and visitors, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the EMS-Lieutenant.
Job Duties
Provides immediate emergency response and intermediate level prehospital medical care to citizens and visitors of the County.
Provides interim/continuous medical care to patients being transferred to an outlying hospital from a local hospital or urgent care.
Obtains necessary medical information and composes patient care reports.
Operates EMS equipment.
Checks ambulance daily for inventory and/or maintenance issues.
Trains or assists in training of new hires.
Position Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of the principles and techniques of emergency care, including diagnosis, proper treatment and automobile extraction and transportation; thorough knowledge of the reading of electrocardiograms; thorough knowledge of the principles of anatomy, physiology and chemistry in relation to the respiratory and circulatory systems; thorough knowledge of the street system and geography of the County; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to keep simple records and prepare reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, associates and the general public.
Education, Experience and Supplemental Information
High school diploma or GED and minimal experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must hold valid state or national certification at the level of the position.
Special Requirements
CPR Certification.
EMT intermediate Certification.
PHTLS within six months of hire.
Valid driver’s license in the State of North Carolina.
