Job Summary
The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Instructor/Coordinator works under the direction of the EMS Program Director. The Instructor/Coordinator is responsible for preparing and delivering didactic and laboratory curriculum in accordance with the North Carolina Community College System, the North Carolina Office of EMS, CoAEMSP/CAAHEP accreditation standards, and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. This position is responsible for teaching in classroom, laboratory, and/or clinical settings. In addition to instructional duties, the Instructor/Coordinator will coordinate courses and supervise adjunct instructors.

The Instructor/Coordinator is expected to perform all duties in a timely, accurate, professional, and ethical manner and in accordance with the mission, policies, and procedures of the College, the North Carolina Community College System, and any and all accrediting bodies.

The Instructor/Coordinator will teach and support students so they might gain skills, knowledge and behaviors needed for successful entry into the workplace.

If hired as a NCOEMS Level I instructor, this Instructor/Coordinator must certify as a NCOEMS Level II instructor within three (3) years of hire date.

Job Duties
Lead course coordination
Supervise adjunct instructors
Comply with NCCCS, SACSCOC, CoAEMSP/CAAHEP, and NCOEMS standards as well as college policies and procedures
Maintain student and course records in compliance with aforementioned agencies
Develop, with director and any other faculty, program level competencies that outline expected student learning outcomes
Develop course syllabi that outline clear and appropriate student learning outcomes and expectations that reflect program competencies
Report student progress in mastering established learning outcomes based on identified and approved assessments.
Ensure the delivery of effective instruction
Teach an appropriate instructional course load in accordance with policies outlined in the Instructional Procedures Manual
Demonstrate effective instructional methods to meet various learning styles
Administer appropriate assessment and/or testing to measure student learning outcomes in all courses
Identify and communicate instructional equipment and supply needs to EMS director
Provide timely and accurate reports, including census reports, grade reports, and other required reports related to instruction
Recommend the hire of adjunct instructors to the director and dean
Attend meetings related to the business of the college
Complete professional development as required by the College, regulatory groups, and accrediting bodies
Work with program advisory board
Collaborate with the Program’s Medical Director, Clinical Coordinator and preceptors
Advise students and refer to Student Services as needed
Maintain office hours for student support
Participate in College’s program review cycle

Physical Demands
Position may require stooping, kneeling, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs., walking, carrying, and other movements. Tasks such as working at a computer keyboard may involve repetitive wrist and hand movements. Instructor/Coordinator must be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury to themselves or others. Occasional travel will be required as well.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
Associate’s Degree or higher in any discipline from an accredited institution

Licenses/Certifications
NC OEMS Level I Instructor certification at the paramedic level
Ability to obtain NC OEMS Level II Instructor certification at the paramedic level within three years of hire
Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS Certifications
Current North Carolina Provider Credential

Experience
A minimum of three (3) years of experience working in EMS
A minimum of one (1) year of teaching experience in EMS

Skills
Possess knowledge of the EMS program’s evaluation of student learning and performance
Possess knowledge of the EMS curriculum
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Working knowledge/utilization of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software applications
Strong organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a health-related discipline, EMS, or education from an accredited institution

Licenses/Certifications
NC OEMS Level II Instructor certification at the paramedic level
Current National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Certification

Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of experience working in EMS
Three (3) years teaching experience
Special Instructions
If hired as a NCOEMS Level I instructor, this Instructor/Coordinator must certify as a NCOEMS Level II instructor within three (3) years of hire date.
