General Statement of Duties:
Hyde County EMS is seeking a dedicated and skilled Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) to join our team. This position involves performing basic and advanced life support, stabilization procedures, and emergency medical care as part of the Emergency Medical Services Department of the County. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing critical medical emergency treatments to patients at accident or illness scenes and during transport to medical facilities.
Distinguishing Features of the Class:
An AEMT at Hyde County EMS is crucial for delivering basic life support and ensuring that high-quality emergency patient care standards are maintained. This role may involve providing convalescent care, transporting patients to various locations, and serving as a crew member on an advanced life support unit under the direction of a Paramedic.
Duties and Responsibilities:
– Respond to emergency calls for medical assistance.
– Administer basic and advanced life support techniques and procedures based on patient assessment.
– Maintain and inventory emergency equipment, supplies, and medications.
– Complete necessary records and reports for emergency calls, including billing documentation and legal accountability.
– Participate in the cleaning and maintenance of ambulances, equipment, and station premises.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
– Knowledge of emergency medical procedures and techniques.
– Skill in the operation of rescue equipment and in administering emergency medical care.
– Ability to work effectively under pressure in emergency and stressful situations.
– Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with the public, law enforcement, fire personnel, and medical professionals.
– Physical ability to perform job functions, including lifting more than 50 pounds frequently.
Education and Experience:
– High school diploma or equivalent.
– Some experience as an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician preferred.
– Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Special Requirements:
– Certification from North Carolina (or National Registry) as an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician.
– Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
Physical Requirements:
– Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks such as climbing, lifting, and balancing.
– Must have the visual acuity to operate mobile equipment and monitor work site progress.
