Sampson Community College – Psychological Aspects of Aging In EMS – MOODLE Online

The Psychological Aspects of Aging in EMS course is designed to provide EMS professionals with a comprehensive understanding of the psychological and emotional changes associated with aging. This course aims to equip participants with the skills necessary to deliver compassionate and effective care to elderly patients, addressing both their physical and psychological needs.

Course Objectives:

Understanding Aging: Explore the psychological and emotional changes that occur with aging, including cognitive decline, depression, anxiety, and social isolation.
Effective Communication: Develop techniques for communicating effectively with elderly patients, considering cognitive impairments and sensory deficits.
Assessment Skills: Enhance skills in assessing the psychological and emotional state of elderly patients in emergency situations.
Compassionate Care: Promote strategies for providing empathetic and respectful care that addresses the unique needs of older adults.
Crisis Intervention: Learn to recognize and manage acute psychological crises in elderly patients, such as delirium, agitation, and suicidal ideation.
Support Systems: Understand the role of family, caregivers, and social support networks in the care of elderly patients.
