The Faculty, Emergency Medical Science primary responsibilities include designing and implementing learning strategies for students in the Emergency Medical Science (EMS) Program both credit and non-credit; developing course syllabi and instructional materials; maintaining instructional records; student recruitment, advisement, and retention; developing and evaluating courses, programs and services; participating in College activities and committees; and other duties which support the mission and initiatives of the College. This position reports directly to the Division Chair, Public Services. The role includes practical instruction in traditional and online learning environments. The EMS program uses competency-based learning extensively as an instructional strategy. A full-time faculty position at Davidson Davie Community College is a nine-month contract.

Responsibilities:
● Promotes College mission, values, and vision

● Teaches assigned courses on the main campus, satellite locations, and at clinical settings to meet program needs including, but not limited to, day, evening, weekend, and distance courses

● Evaluates student progress and provides appropriate feedback

● Develops course syllabi and provides appropriate written information to students concerning course evaluation and criteria

● Advises students in academic and employment planning

● Recommends appropriate textbooks and other instructional materials

● Carries out a program of self-evaluation to determine instructional effectiveness

● Explores, assesses, and implements appropriate instructional technology to enhance student learning outcomes

● Participate in activities necessary to obtain initial program accreditation from the Committee on Accreditation of Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP) and meet any state requirements

● Assists in the evaluation of courses and programs

● Prepares and submits instructional records, reports, and grades established by institutional policy

● Attends College meetings

● Serves on College committees

● Assists in student recruitment and retention, including College-wide marketing initiatives

● Assists in the development of institutional policies and regulations

● Maintains contacts with business, industry, and professional organizations to keep instructional programs current with advances in the occupational or academic field

● Assists in curriculum development and revision, including distance courses where appropriate

● Maintains appropriate office hours and accessibility for students, faculty, and staff

● Assists in the management of resources such as equipment and budget

● Assists in the development of course schedules

● Assists in orientation and mentoring of new faculty members

● Serves as an advisor or sponsor of student clubs or organizations where appropriate

● Participates in College and School level planning and development

● Assists in the advisory committee process

● Assists in the development of promotional materials

● Participates in professional development to enhance instructional and technical skills

● Performs other tasks as assigned which support the mission and initiatives of the College

Minimum Qualifications Required:
● Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in Emergency Services or related field
o Associate’s degree with substantial related work experience and a commitment to obtaining a Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree requirement.
o Must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program within two years of hire
● Current certification as EMT-P through NCOEMS
● Level I Paramedic Instructor certification with a commitment of obtaining Level II certification
● Minimum of two years of full-time employment or the equivalent in EMS
● Prior college teaching experience, especially in an Associate degree Emergency Medical Science program
● Skilled in the use of computers and committed to using technology
● Experience with MS Office
● Excellent oral and written communication skills
● Ability to work effectively and collegially with others
● Ability to provide leadership in anticipating and responding to change
● Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community college

Preferred Qualifications:
● Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in Emergency Services or related field
● Current certification as National Registry Paramedic
● Experience in the instructional use of computers and non-traditional teaching methods
