The state credentialing exam is delivered as a linear exam. This means all candidates take the same exam domain/question blueprint. The North Carolina Office of EMS utilizes multiple exam forms for each level to ensure fairness for all applicants. Applicants can expect a commonality of roughly 50% across the exam forms. The commonality refers to the number of questions that have been determined as essential for that scope of practice and will be present on each exam at that level of application. For example: Emergency Medical Responder exams with 50% commonality will have 25 questions that are consistent across all exams with the remaining 25 questions being different. Current state credentialing exam structures are listed below:
Exam | Questions |
EMR | 50 |
EMT | 100 |
AEMT | 100 |
Paramedic | 100
